Why You'll Love This Barrel Chair

The Franke balances the sculptural appearance of an accent chair with the comfort of an enveloping seat.

Its curved back gives the chair its distinctive barrel shape while creating a softer alternative to chairs with straight backs and angular arms. The Surrey Cocoa upholstery adds warmth and texture, while dark oak legs introduce a natural wood element.

At 38 inches wide, the Franke has enough presence to stand alone as a statement chair while remaining versatile enough to incorporate into a larger seating arrangement.

A removable feather-blend seat cushion and solid wood frame add practical functionality to a design intended to look polished from every angle.

Brown Barrel Chair

A brown barrel chair can introduce warmth and contrast into a room without relying on a bold color or pattern.

The Franke's Surrey Cocoa upholstery pairs beautifully with cream, ivory, beige, taupe, black, deep green, natural wood, and warm metallic finishes.

Against a lighter sofa or rug, the dark brown upholstery creates noticeable contrast. In a moodier interior, combine it with chocolate, charcoal, olive, or other saturated tones for a layered palette.

Natural materials such as travertine, marble, wood, linen, wool, and aged brass complement the richness of the cocoa upholstery particularly well.

Barrel Chair for the Living Room

Use the Franke Barrel Chair beside a sofa, fireplace, or coffee table to introduce another layer of comfortable seating to the living room.

The curved silhouette is especially effective in rooms dominated by rectangular furniture. Pairing the Franke with a straight-lined sofa or rectangular coffee table introduces a softer shape and creates visual balance.

For a more symmetrical arrangement, position two Franke Barrel Chairs opposite a sofa with an accent table between them to create an intimate conversation area.

Barrel Chair for the Bedroom

The Franke can also create comfortable occasional seating in a bedroom without introducing the visual weight of an oversized lounge chair.

Position the barrel chair near a window with a floor lamp and small accent table to create a dedicated reading area, or place it in an unused bedroom corner to provide somewhere to sit away from the bed.

The cocoa upholstery works especially well in bedrooms featuring cream bedding, upholstered headboards, warm wood furniture, and layered neutral textiles.

Where to Style the Franke Barrel Chair

The Franke works beautifully in living rooms, bedrooms, reading areas, sitting rooms, and home offices.

For a relaxed organic-modern room, combine the chair with an ivory rug, pale stone accent table, linen curtains, and natural wood.

For greater contrast, pair the brown upholstery with black accents, deep green, burgundy, or warm brass.

Because the barrel silhouette already provides strong visual interest, the surrounding furniture can remain relatively simple.

Designer Styling Tip

Let the Franke's curved silhouette become part of the room's design rather than covering it with too many accessories.

Place a small accent table beside the chair with a sculptural lamp or decorative object, then ground the arrangement with a light-colored rug. The contrast between cocoa upholstery, pale stone, and cream textiles will emphasize the barrel chair's shape while keeping the room warm and sophisticated.

For a more collected appearance, repeat the brown tone subtly through natural wood, leather, artwork, or smaller decorative objects rather than trying to match the upholstery exactly.
